Cherry Blossom – oil on board – 8 x 8 inches

image

This is an idea taken from work I have seen in a local gallery. I wanted to have a go at trying to capture the same effect and experiment with leaf metal. It is such tricky stuff to handle, so fragile and delicate but I find the overall effect quite lovely. If anyone has any handling tips I would love to hear from you.
I have used copper for this picture but I think silver would be great behind abstract butterflies. The oil paint now needs to dry really well before applying several coats of Shellac varnish, this gives the effect of glass.
